Dossier Sergio Ramos

In this section, I will show you some examples of texts which have been produced by me in different moments of my learning process. First, I am goingo to show you some texts I wrote for my English class when I was 15, I think. I was in the third year of the compulsory education. You will be able also to see which were my mistakes there, although I did not have a lot. Now, I would like to compare my language level from those days to the actual one, after almost 7 years. This text is really different, it is a poem I have written for a university subject, which talks about the Vietnam war from the point of view of a USA veteran. It sounds more complex, right? Let's see: Well, as I explained before, I can also speak and write some German, and I will show you two examples of my learning process. I wrote these texts in the same year but in different months. We can see some progress: And that's all, I have not uploaded any text in Valencian, because I ...

Language Passport Sergio Ramos

Passport: In this part of the entry, I will show visually which are the levels I have in the different languages I have just talked about above. This table represents exactly which level of which languages I have certificated. Next to the level I have also written the name of the official center or association which made the exam. In the case of the English Language, there are two different centres because I did the exam for the same level in two different cetres, first in Trinity College and then in the Spanish Official Language School. Besides, the Passport of the ELP contains the experiences of the learner. I am starting with Spanish, which is the language I use everyday in almost every context. Spanish language is the one which I have used since I can speak, with my family, friends, at school, at the street, etc. My experiences with this one are really assorted. But, I would like to highlight the difference between the Spanish I use with my friends in Utiel, the S...

Language Biography Sergio Ramos

Biography How should I start? I think that the best answer for this question is to talk about my mother tongue and then which is the other or the others I can use without any problem. Well, it seems logic that my first language is Spanish and that's because I am from Utiel, a spanish speaking small city near Valencia. My university friends maybe are bilingual or have Valencian as first language, but my situation since I was a child is different. Why? That's because of the geographycal situation of my town. It is nearly 90 km far from tha capital and normally, its habitants never speak using Valencian. It is also a hiscorical question too, because Utiel has belonged to Cuenca, one of the provinces which limit with Valencia; and there the only official language is Spanish. So, does this mean that I can only speak one language at the same level as a first language is supposed to be? The answer is no. But, again, why not? It seems easy to think that if the official lan...

In my first entry, I wanted to talk about myself to let you now how and who I am. To do that, I want to tell you about the most important parts of my daily life: studies, languages, sports and social life. But not only my habits or tastes form the person I am, places such as my home town Utiel and songs like Knocking on Heaven’s doors also describe and identify me. I will try to be brief and summarize which kind of person I am. First, I must say that as all of the other three members of the group, I am studying to become an English teacher in primary school, that’s why one of my passions are languages. During my life as student I have learnt Spanish, English and Valencian, but once I started university I found the opportunity to start learning German too. So, besides of learning them I have always helped my friend...
