In this section, I will analyze my experience with languages throughout my life.First of all, spanish is my mother tongue. It is the language spoken by my parents and in general my whole family.
My parents both grew up outside the Valencian community, so they learned Valencian in their adulthood. Therefore, spanish was the first language I got in touch and in general it is the language that I master and with which I feel the most comfortable. As for the studies, I have lived all my life in Spain so I am required to study this language in the educational field.
Secondly, valencian is the language of my city so I am surrounded by it. Although as I said my closest family is spanish speaking, certainly my goodparents are Valencian speakers.
When I was little I spent a lot of time with them so to some extent this influenced me and in my early years I had contact with this language in my private environment. In adittion, in my town, Villamarchante, a great deal of the population speaks Valencian too, so it has also been an trigger to my learning. At school, my parents decided that from the first year of primary I was going to study in the educational program PIL (Programa d'Immersió Lingüistica) created with the purpose of using the valencian as a vehicular language. Therefore, both my primary and my secondary period I received classes in Valencian and, as a result, I developed this language to a great extent. Due to this I have always felt comfortable speaking and writing in Valencian. However, I currently don't have any degree that certificates mi Valencian level, although in the future I hope to pass the b2 exam.
Finally, English is the third language I speak. This is the language in which I have less competences, but I am still studying to improve my level. On a private context, in my family and personal environment, English is not used at all; only my sister speaks it, but never to me. Outside my house, in Valencia it is not an official language so, although English is the most expanded language of the world and it can be read and heard anywhere, it has no great influence on me. However, when I was 16, I made an exchange with the high school to the United States for 2 weeks. This experience, which was relatively brief, I think was a first step towards my interest in English because I enjoyed it a lot and made me to realize how important this language is.
Moreover, in the educational field, since I started attending to the school I have studied English, not only in the school itself, but also in private academies. In fact, at the moment I am still attending to an academy because in the near future I hope to pass the C1 exam this July.
