Language Biography Álvaro Carrión

To begin with, I have to say that I can speak fluently in three languages: English, Spanish and Valencian. It is obvious that I handle myself better in Spanish rather than in Valencian or English because I am Spanish speaker. In the school I tended to use Spanish since I was very young and my father and mother didn't do anything to change that, despite the fact that my mother used to talk in Valencian with some of our family members.
Now, we are going to focus on my way of learning the different languages. I started as I said with Spanish since I was at the school and maybe when I entered in primary education I initiated my knowledge of Valencian and English. It is true that probably in child education I received notions of Valencian or English but we cannot consider that as the beginning of my learning in these languages. Thenceforth, I continued studying Valencian and English as a subject until I finished Bachelor. Apart from that, at ten I started attending private English classes. I used to go there twice a week and I could see that the structure of the classes was totally different from the routine ones.

From then on, I began to show interest in continuing to learn and practicing English and Valencian. As the years went by, there were opportunities to obtain different certificates that recognized my level in both languages so I did not hesitate to keep working to overcome some of them. My motivation came to such an extent that I tried to find people on the street with whom to speak in English or Valencian to practice the language more. My parents could not believe how much interest I had in learning those languages because in other subjects I tented to have problems for passing. At one point, it was offered to me the opportunity of traveling to Ireland with the academy where I studied English, but my fear of flying was greater than the desire to continue developing in this context.
